Indonesian SOE, Qatari firm to build 50,000 housing units

JAKARTA, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's state-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) and Qatar's Al Qilaa International Group have agreed to support Indonesia's Three Million Homes Program, starting with 50,000 vertical housing units based on the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) concept in Jakarta.

"We are committed to supporting the government's housing program by providing affordable and quality homes, while ensuring that all partnerships are implemented transparently, accountably, and in line with good corporate governance principles," KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin said on Wednesday.

Bobby added that the collaboration is a strategic step to optimize KAI's land assets through the TOD concept, which supports public mobility and sustainable cities.

Al Qilaa Global Group Chairman Abdulaziz Al Thani said the project is not only about building houses, but also about creating a sustainable housing ecosystem with schools, playgrounds, and smart technology to improve people's quality of life.
