UNIFIL says Indonesian peacekeeper dies of wounds suffered in S. Lebanon blast

BEIRUT, April 24 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on Friday announced the death of Corporal Rico Pramudia, a 31-year-old peacekeeper who had been critically wounded in a projectile explosion at his base in Aadchit Al Qusayr on March 29.

UNIFIL said he died from his injuries at a hospital in Beirut.

"The entire UNIFIL family extends its heartfelt condolences to Corporal Pramudia's family and friends, to the Indonesian Armed Forces, and to the government and people of the Republic of Indonesia during this painful loss," the peacekeeping mission said in a statement.

A preliminary investigation by the UN indicated that the Indonesian peacekeeper was killed by an Israeli tank shell.

UNIFIL called on all parties to uphold international law and stressed that deliberate attacks against peacekeepers constitute serious violations of international humanitarian law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and may constitute war crimes.
