Indonesia's Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway passengers rise 7 pct during Eid holiday

JAKARTA, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway, known as Whoosh, recorded a 7 percent year-on-year increase in passenger numbers to more than 311,000 during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday period, operator PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) said on Tuesday.

"The increase in passenger numbers during this year's Eid al-Fitr holiday indicates that Whoosh is increasingly trusted as a primary mode of transportation," said Eva Chairunisa, KCIC's general manager for corporate secretary.

During the period from March 13 to 30, average daily ridership reached around 17,000 passengers, with a peak of 24,315 passengers recorded on March 24, said the company, a joint venture between Indonesian and Chinese enterprises that built and operates the railway.

To accommodate the surge in demand, KCIC operated about 1,000 train trips, achieving an on-time performance rate of 99.4 percent.

KCIC reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining service quality and ensuring safe, comfortable and punctual travel for passengers, it added.
