Indonesia records 1.55 mln tons of carbon trading since launch of Indonesia Carbon Exchange

JAKARTA, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia has recorded a carbon trading volume of 1,557,326 tons of CO2 equivalent, valued at 76.56 billion rupiahs (approximately 4.67 billion U.S. dollars), since the launch of the Indonesia Carbon Exchange on Sept. 26, 2023, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) announced on Wednesday.

This figure includes an international trading volume of 49,545 tons of CO2 equivalent, which began on Jan. 20, 2025, with 270 tons originating from the renewable energy sector.

"This achievement aligns with the increasing number of service users and the growing availability of carbon units for trading on the Indonesia Carbon Exchange," said Inarno Djajadi, chief executive of capital market supervision, derivatives finance, and carbon exchange at OJK.

The total number of service users has now reached 107 entities, trading carbon credits across various sectors, including energy and technology-based solutions.
