JAKARTA, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia is strengthening efficiency and governance in its Free Nutritious Meals Program, with greater focus on remote and underserved regions, the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) said on Thursday.
BGN Head Nanik Sudaryati Deyang said the government is optimizing budget use and improving beneficiary targeting to ensure the program delivers greater impact.
The agency has temporarily suspended new kitchen construction while optimizing existing facilities and tightening standards for Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units to improve food safety and service quality.
Deyang said service coverage remains concentrated in urban areas, while remote regions still require greater support.
The agency also reaffirmed its focus on pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and children under five as part of efforts to reduce stunting nationwide.
