HANGZHOU, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- 2018 Jakarta Asiad champion Jun Woong-tae and silver medalist Lee Ji-hun made it through the men's individual semifinal at the Hangzhou Asian Games modern pentathlon here on Friday, with the South Korean duo to fight for more Asiad medals in Sunday's final.
In the semifinal, 29 athletes were divided into two groups, and the top nine competitors in each group qualified for the final.
Jun finished third in Group A, ending his event with 1,146 points, 21 fewer than 29-year-old Taishu Sato of Japan, who won the group. Lee finished third in Group B, which was topped by China's Chen Yan.
The rain, low temperature and slippery grass presented the athletes with significant challenges.
"The main task today is not to get injured," said China's Luo Shuai, who finished second in Group A.
"Many strong athletes have come here for the Hangzhou Asiad," said Chen. "We will try our best in the final."
