SOLO, 15th November, 2022 (WAM) -- The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Solo, Indonesia, which was built upon generous directives from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, embodies the strong ties between the UAE and Indonesia.
Beginning construction in May 2021, working teams comprising manual workers, engineers and supervisors completed the monument on time.
The mosque is located in an area measuring 27,492 square metres while the building has an area of 8,441.28 square metres. Its floors are decorated with traditional ornate cloth symbolising unity.
The mosque also has 56 domes and four minarets, and its main prayer area has 32 columns, making it a key landmark for future generations.
The mosque was named after the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in commemoration of his glorious journey, legacy and wise approach to promoting the values of humanity and tolerance, as well as his efforts to strengthen the bilateral ties between the two friendly countries.
The design of the mosque has been a highlight on the map of the city since its inauguration, as it is similar to the Grand Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi and accommodates 10,000 worshippers.
Residents of Solo extended their gratitude for the inauguration of the major project, which has become a leading destination for visitors in the city and is a unique icon that is a masterpiece of Islamic architecture, which can be seen in all corners of the mosque.
