JAKARTA -- A 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck off Indonesia's eastern province of Maluku on Friday, but no warning was issued for a possible tsunami, the meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency said.

The quake rocked at 9:36 Jakarta time (0236 GMT), with the epicenter at 85 km southwest of Maluku Barat Daya district and 104 km under seabed, the agency said. (Indonesia-Earthquake)

SYDNEY -- Researchers from Australia's Curtin University have analyzed seawater samples from across the globe and discovered that even the most remote areas of the vast ocean contain traces of microplastics.

The report, titled "Around the plastic world in 455 days" and published on Friday, collected 177 seawater samples across a 46,100 km, a 177-day voyage from Australia's west coast around South America and back to Australia's east coast. (Australia-Ocean-Plastics)
