KABUL -- Afghanistan's central bank, Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB), has urged people to use local currency in transactions and avoided using foreign currencies.

"In accordance with article 33 of the Da Afghanistan Bank law, the Afghanistan currency and its monetary unit is afghani. Therefore, all Afghans, the government and private institutions are requested to use afghani in their contracts, transactions and businesses to improve economic growth," the bank said in a statement posted on social media account. BAGHDAD -- The Iraqi Joint Operations Command (JOC) on Friday said that the Iraqi and U.S. military agreed to reduce combat units in two military bases in Iraq by the end of September.

The agreement was reached during a meeting held on Thursday in Baghdad between an Iraqi committee headed by JOC's Deputy Commander Lt. Gen. Abdul Amir al-Shammari and a U.S. committee headed by Maj. Gen. John Brennan, commanding general of the U.S.-led coalition forces in Iraq, a JOC statement said. (Iraq-U.S.-Military)

TOKYO -- Campaigning for the leadership race of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) to choose the successor to Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga officially began on Friday, with four veteran lawmakers competing for the leader position.

JAKARTA -- Two people died as an Indonesian government ship carrying two trucks sank on Nusakambangan waters in Central Java province, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights said on Friday.

The Pengayoman IV ship departed from Wijayapura pier to Sodong pier on Nusakambangan island in Cilacap district, Central Java, at 9:00 a.m. local time with seven people on board. (Indonesia-Accident).
