JAKARTA, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian health ministry reported on Monday that the number of coronavirus cases across the country rose by 20,709 within the past 24 hours to 3,686,740, with the death toll adding by 1,475 to 108,571.
Additional 44,959 recovered patients were discharged from hospitals, raising the total number of recoveries from the pandemic in the Southeast Asian country to 3,129,661, according to the ministry.
The Indonesian government is currently implementing a multi-tiered community activity restriction scheme, known locally as the PPKM, aiming to prevent the highly transmissible Delta variant from spreading rapidly in some regions of the country.
The policy is set to end on Monday.
To date, at least 24.21 million people in the country have received two shots of vaccines, and the number of those who had been injected with the first doses reached 50.63 million, the health ministry reported.
Indonesia is targeting to vaccinate 208.2 million people.
