JAKARTA -- Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Wednesday received the COVID-19 vaccine shot developed by China's biopharmaceutical company Sinovac Biotech.

The president, widely known as Jokowi, is the first Indonesian vaccinated to show that the vaccine is safe.

After the president, the Indonesian military chief, the national police chief and the Health Minister, among others, were also vaccinated. (Indonesian President-Chinese Vaccine-Inoculation)

JAKARTA -- Visiting Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Indonesia's Coordinator for Cooperation with China Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan in North Sumatra on Tuesday, expressing willingness to cooperate with Indonesia on COVID-19 vaccine, major economic projects, digital development and marine safety.

As both major developing countries, China and Indonesia should work together, support each other and deepen cooperation, which are of strategic significance to safeguarding regional peace and development and promoting world stability and prosperity, Wang said. (China-Indonesia-Ties)

CANBERRA -- The Australian Medical Association (AMA) has called for the federal government to launch a social media campaign countering coronavirus conspiracy theories.

In a recent statement, AMA President Omar Khorshid said that the internet could "significantly magnify health misinformation campaigns" around COVID-19 and vaccines.

"People can easily absorb misinformation delivered directly to them through advertising, celebrity influencers, and people in positions of power," he said on Tuesday. (Australia-AMA-Call)

CANBERRA -- Australian Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly said on Wednesday that he was "concerned" that debate around the efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines could undermine public confidence.

The Australian and New Zealand Society for Immunology recently called for the Australian government to pause its planned rollout of AstraZeneca's coronavirus vaccines, saying it may not be effective enough to generate herd immunity to the virus. (Australia-Chief Medical Officer-Call)
