Bomb detonated by suicide attacker kills 20 in Pakistan

Indonesia News.Net Friday 4th May, 2012

KHAR, PAKISTAN - At least 20 people, including a woman and several schoolchildren, were killed and dozens injured when a suicide bomber believed to be a teenager attacked a security check post in a tribal district along the Afghan border Friday, officials said.

The head and deputy head of the Bajaur Levies, a security force drawn from local Pashtun tribesmen, were among the five security officials killed in the bombing owned by Taliban terrorists.

Taliban spokesman Ihsanullah Ihsan said the officials were targeted in retaliation for the death of Sheik Marwan, an Al Qaeda commander killed by security forces in Bajaur in 2011.

"We will continue to attack government-sponsored militias and security forces," Ihsan said in a statement to the media.

The suicide bomber detonated his explosives near a security checkpoint in a busy market place in the town of Khar, said government administrator Abdul Haseeb.

Officials said the attack took place as locals were on their way to work and children going to schools.

Intelligence officials said the bomber, aged between 14 to 16, had detonated explosives strapped to his chest.

Officials said the attack was deadliest in Pakistan since March 2, when at least 22 people were killed by a suicide attack on a mosque in the tribal district of Khyber.

Friday's was the third bomb attack in two days in Bajaur, which has been the stronghold of Taliban militants and one of the toughest battlegrounds for Pakistani security personnel in their fight against terrorism.

The attack comes a day after the US released letters seized from Osama bin Laden's compound that criticized Pakistani militants for killing too many civilians.
