JAKARTA, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia is aiming to boost its agricultural and plantation exports to global markets to capitalize on the strengthening U.S. dollar, Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman said Monday.
"We will push for more agricultural exports, especially palm oil. We believe this is the good momentum," Sulaiman told reporters in Jakarta when questioned about the Indonesian rupiah's recent depreciation.
While stressing the need for a prudent response as the rupiah hovered around 18,000 per dollar, the minister said that Indonesia must seize opportunities amid the challenges by expanding its export footprint.
He said that the agricultural sector could help the country leverage the currency situation, while increased export volumes would directly benefit local farmers.
