JAKARTA, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia on Monday said it aims to slash national logistics costs to 12.5 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) by 2029, in a bid to ensure more effective distribution of goods and public services.
"Our goal is simple, which is to make logistics costs more efficient, strengthen inter-regional connectivity, encourage investment and job creation," Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono said in a statement.
Without an integrated transportation system, the distribution of goods and services will remain costly and continue to hamper economic growth in various regions, said Yudhoyono.
Strengthening inter-island connectivity is key to promoting more equitable development while reducing national logistics costs, the minister said.
